David Finnell





David was juried into the 5th annual Lighthouse Plein Air Festival in Jupiter, Florida, and the 10th annual Mountain Maryland plein air event in Cumberland, Maryland.  In April, he participated in the 2nd annual Queen City Plein Air Festival in Staunton, Virginia.


Juried into Plein Air Richmond, David won an honorable mention and took the prize for the best animal scene. David participated in the Floyd (VA) Plein Air Festival in August.


In June, David participated as a juried artist in "Easels in Frederick" in Frederick, Maryland. He also painted in the Mountain Maryland's Quick Draw in Cumberland, Maryland, attending fellow watercolorist Mick McAndrews' demonstration after the event.

In July, David traveled to the Rockies and then to Santa Fe for two weeks of solo painting.


In June of 2015, David won the Quick Draw (non-juried category) at "Easels in Frederick" with his watercolor "Shadows on Church Street."

In July 2014, David traveled to the island of Alameda, across the bay from San Francisco, juried into the Frank Bette Paint-out there.  “It was my very first trip to California,” said David.  “When bystanders saw my name tag, which included my hometown, their first question was always, ‘What are you doing so far from home?’”  My answer was always, “Adventure!”

David took honorable mention in the Alameda event.   

In June of 2014, David participated in “Easels in Frederick,” the juried plein-air competition, in Frederick County, Maryland.  He was one of 30 national artists to be accepted into this event.  This was David’s second consecutive appearance.
